240 Colors That Start With P

Need a P color for a palette, illustration, or interface? This atlas gives you 240 alphabetized names with matching HEX values, RGB values, and visible swatches. Clear labels show which names are genuine CSS keywords and which are creative catalog names.

240 Colors That Start With P at a Glance

The collection runs from Paarl to Python Blue and covers pale neutrals, saturated pinks, ocean blues, earthy browns, greens, oranges, and purples. Eleven entries are standardized CSS named colors. The other 229 are curated catalog names: useful labels paired with exact digital references, but not universal standards.

HEX is the controlling value in every row. Each RGB triplet and swatch corresponds to that six-digit HEX code. For more examples of descriptive labels, see this guide to unique color names.

How to Read the Color Tables

  • Name: The human-readable display name.
  • HEX: The six-digit sRGB reference used for the swatch.
  • RGB: The same color expressed as red, green, and blue channel values from 0 to 255.
  • Status: Either a standardized CSS named color or a nonstandard curated catalog name.
  • Color: A screen-rendered preview of the HEX value.

Browsers do not recognize most catalog names as color keywords. Use their HEX values in digital projects unless the status column identifies an exact CSS keyword.

The P Color Atlas

The seven tables form one continuous alphabetized list. Alphabetization ignores spaces, punctuation, capitalization, and accents.

The 11 Standard CSS P Colors

These are the only entries in the atlas that can be used directly as named-color keywords in CSS. Their defined values belong to the sRGB color space, and keyword matching is ASCII case-insensitive.

CSS Display Names and Exact Tokens

The standardized pairs are Pale Goldenrod (palegoldenrod, #EEE8AA), Pale Green (palegreen, #98FB98), Pale Turquoise (paleturquoise, #AFEEEE), Pale Violet Red (palevioletred, #DB7093), Papaya Whip (papayawhip, #FFEFD5), Peach Puff (peachpuff, #FFDAB9), Peru (peru, #CD853F), Pink (pink, #FFC0CB), Plum (plum, #DDA0DD), Powder Blue (powderblue, #B0E0E6), and Purple (purple, #800080).

Why Plum Needs a Status Label

The CSS keyword plum always maps to #DDA0DD, while another color catalog may attach the unqualified name “Plum” to a different, darker value. When code or brand consistency matters, specify the HEX value instead of relying on the everyday meaning of the name. For more variations around this family, compare the site’s gallery of purple shades.

CSS Names and Catalog Labels

CSS keywords and catalog labels serve different purposes. A CSS name has a defined browser value, while a catalog label is a descriptive association that may differ between collections.

colors that start with p — Material studyAI-generated editorial illustration; not a measured color sample.

Standardized Names Versus Catalog Names

A CSS keyword has a defined spelling and sRGB value. A catalog name is a human-created label attached to a particular HEX value by that catalog. It can be useful for ideation and communication, but another catalog may associate the same wording with a different value.

The status column keeps that distinction visible and prevents an informal association from displacing a standardized value such as CSS Plum.

Why Exact Values Matter

Every displayed atlas name appears once and maps to one controlling HEX value. The RGB channels and visible cell color follow that value. For example, Pearl #EAE0C8 corresponds to RGB 234, 224, 200.

Use the full six-digit HEX value when you need a catalog color in code. Similar wording, alternate punctuation, or an unsuffixed family name is not a substitute for the exact reference.

What These Names Mean, and What They Do Not

Every swatch here is an sRGB screen reference. It describes a point in a digital color space, not a unique physical substance or guaranteed material appearance.

Screen Color Is Not a Paint Formula

A screen emits light, while paint and dyed materials reflect light. A HEX code therefore does not define a pigment, dye, paint mixture, or physical sample.

For that reason, #FFC0CB is not a recipe for mixing physical pink paint. Follow the paint manufacturer’s instructions and test the actual material. For medium-specific guidance, use this guide to mixing pink paint instead of treating a HEX value as a formula.

Why Color Names Are Not Universal Standards

English color vocabulary includes standardized technical terms alongside inherited and newly created descriptive labels. A name can suggest a color family without identifying one universally accepted value.

Displays and printers can also reproduce different ranges of color, known as gamuts. An unprofiled CMYK conversion does not identify a particular printer, ink, and paper combination, so this atlas does not provide generic CMYK percentages.

Using P Colors in Digital Design

Begin with function, then choose the swatch. A pale color might serve as a background, a darker companion can support text or navigation, and a saturated accent can draw attention. Placing candidates on a color wheel can clarify their hue relationships, but harmony alone does not guarantee legibility.

Check Text Contrast

Accessibility depends on the actual foreground and background pair, not the appeal or name of either color. WCAG guidance calls for a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text. In this context, large text means at least 18pt regular or 14pt bold.

Run the final HEX pair through a contrast checker, and do not round a result upward to claim that it passes. Also provide labels, icons, patterns, or other cues when color communicates a status, warning, or category.

Account for Output Differences

A digital reference can fall outside the gamut of a particular output device. Treat the swatch as an sRGB reference rather than a promise that every screen, printer, or physical medium will reproduce the same appearance.

A dependable workflow keeps the HEX value as the digital reference, records any output profile or physical material separately, and checks the result in its intended medium. That preserves the convenience of memorable P color names without asking those names to carry technical information they do not contain.
