240 Colors That Start With E: Digital Color Atlas

Colors that start with E range from earthy neutrals and quiet pastels to electric greens, blues, and violets. This atlas provides 240 distinct names with a controlling six-digit HEX value, matching RGB numbers, and a visible digital swatch. Source codes distinguish curated names, surveyed associations, and secondary-index values without presenting informal labels as official standards.

Colors That Start With E: Quick Answer

Examples include Ebony, Ecru, Easter Green, Eggplant, Eggshell, Egyptian Blue, Electric Blue, Emerald Green, English Red, Erin, Eucalyptus Green, Evergreen, and Extreme Violet. The atlas covers 240 alphabetized entries selected from an opened full color-name catalog, a monitor-color survey, and documented secondary indexes.

None of the standardized CSS named-color keywords begins with E. Browsers therefore do not recognize names such as electricblue or egyptianblue as built-in color keywords. Use an explicit HEX value when reproducing one of these references on the web.

The HEX value controls every row. Its three pairs specify the red, green, and blue channels, and the RGB numbers and swatch are derived from that same value. For example, #C2B280 becomes RGB (194, 178, 128).

A familiar name can carry different values in different collections. The selected Ecru value is #C2B280, while a monitor-color survey records #FEFFCA. Similar documented conflicts affect Electric Blue, Electric Green, Electric Lime, and Electric Purple. Preserve the HEX code with the name whenever an exact result matters.

240-Color E Atlas

The source-code column keeps each association qualified. C means curated catalog name, S means secondary-index association, 2S means two secondary indexes agree, and X means surveyed monitor-color association. Combined codes show agreement between source types. These labels identify provenance, not official ownership or universal definitions.

What the Names and Codes Mean

CSS Keywords and HEX Values

CSS named colors are standardized, case-insensitive keywords that resolve to sRGB colors. The standard table has no E-starting keyword. Human-readable display names may contain spaces, but spaces are not accepted inside a CSS named-color token. Use the row’s explicit HEX code instead.

colors that start with e — Material studyAI-generated editorial illustration; not a measured color sample.

A six-digit HEX color uses three two-digit pairs arranged as RR, GG, and BB. Uppercase and lowercase HEX digits produce the same result. The consistent uppercase style here simply makes the table easier to scan.

Curated, Surveyed, and Secondary Names

A curated catalog is useful for discovering descriptive and creative names, but it is not a universal standards registry. Survey values record how participants labeled colors displayed on monitors. Secondary indexes collect published associations and may agree with one another without becoming primary standards.

That distinction explains why several reasonable values can share one display name. A project should define one controlling value in its style guide, such as “Evergreen #05472A,” instead of storing only the word “evergreen.”

Digital Swatches Are Not Physical Samples

The table defines sRGB screen references. A HEX value specifies red, green, and blue components, not paint ingredients, dye chemistry, ink quantities, or a physical surface. Names such as Ebony, Ecru, Eggshell, and Egyptian Blue therefore identify selected digital associations here, not measurements of every material carrying those names.

For print, paint, textiles, or manufactured products, use the relevant output profile, manufacturer specification, or approved physical sample. Display calibration and profiling can improve consistency and help communicate colors between devices, but a screen swatch should not be treated as a universal physical match.

How to Choose and Use an E Color

Choose by Design Role

Start with the job the color must perform. Pale entries such as Early Snow, Eggshell, and Eternal White may suit large light areas. Dark entries such as Eerie Black, Election Night, and Evergreen can support dark backgrounds or strong anchors. Electric Lime, Electric Pink, Erin, and Extreme Violet are conspicuous accent candidates, but their suitability depends on the surrounding palette.

Keep the name and HEX code together in design tokens or a style guide. The code preserves the intended color when another catalog assigns the same name a different value.

Check Text Contrast

Contrast depends on the exact foreground and background pair. Test the finished combination rather than assuming a color is readable because it looks light, dark, or intense.

WCAG 2.2 Level AA requires at least 4.5:1 contrast for normal text and 3:1 for large-scale text. Large-scale text means at least 18 point for regular text or 14 point for bold text. Check interactive states separately when their foreground or background values change.

Keep Screen, Print, and Paint Separate

Use these HEX values for digital references. A color-managed print workflow needs an appropriate output profile, while paint and other physical materials need their own specifications or samples. A HEX value can guide selection, but it is not a paint-mixing formula or a guarantee of identical output in another medium.
