Colors That Start With Q: 114 HEX and RGB Values

Colors that start with Q range from pale neutrals to deep blues, reds, greens, and purples. This atlas provides 114 cataloged names with matching HEX values, RGB values, and digital swatches. It also explains when a name refers to a catalog label, vendor paint, physical standard, or artist pigment.

Colors That Start With Q: The Short Answer

This collection contains 114 Q color names from an opened color-name catalog. Familiar examples include Quartz, Queen Blue, Quetzal Green, Quicksand, Quicksilver, Quill Grey, Quinacridone Magenta, and Quince. RAL 7039 Quartz grey is discussed separately because it is a physical industrial standard whose official record does not provide a universal six-digit HEX value.

What a Q Color Name Can Represent

A catalog association is not automatically a CSS keyword or universal color standard. The current CSS named-color list has no keyword beginning with Q, so use a numeric value such as HEX when specifying one of these colors on a website.

Colors That Start With Q

HEX is the controlling digital value in every atlas row. Each RGB triplet and visible swatch is derived from that same six-digit value.

Q Color Atlas: Names, HEX Values, RGB, and Swatches

The tables form one continuous alphabetized list after spaces, punctuation, case, and accents are ignored. “Secondary catalog association” means the opened catalog connects that name with the displayed HEX value. It does not make the name an official browser keyword, paint specification, or industrial standard.

Which Q Color Names Are Actually Standardized?

A color name can identify a browser keyword, manufacturer color, industrial standard, artist pigment, or creative catalog association. Identify the relevant system before copying a code or trying to match a physical material.

colors that start with q — Material studyAI-generated editorial illustration; not a measured color sample.

CSS Keywords

The current CSS named-color list contains no keyword beginning with Q. A browser therefore will not recognize a display name such as Queen Blue as a built-in value. Use its HEX value instead:

.q-accent {
  color: #436B95;
}

The class name is an author-defined label. The hexadecimal sRGB value determines the rendered color.

Industrial and Vendor Colors

RAL 7039 is officially named Quartz grey and belongs to the RAL CLASSIC collection. Its authoritative reference is a physical high-gloss paint standard card intended for matching and quality control. The official records reviewed here do not provide one universal six-digit HEX value, so RAL 7039 is not assigned a swatch in the digital atlas.

Quartz #D9D9F3 in the atlas is a separate secondary catalog association, not a digital conversion of RAL 7039.

Resene publishes #CBC9C0 and RGB 203, 201, 192 as the electronic representation of Quill Grey in The Range 2009. The manufacturer warns that electronic colors are representations and recommends checking a physical sample before selecting paint.

Pigment and Artist-Paint Names

Quinacridone Magenta is also used as an artist-paint name. One documented professional oil color uses pigment PR122, is transparent, and uses safflower oil.

The atlas value #8E3A59 is a secondary digital association, not a pigment formula, mixing ratio, or guaranteed paint match. Documented differences in quinacridone particle size and crystalline structure can change the pigment hue, so one screen value cannot represent every physical formulation.

Creative Digital Catalog Names

Many entries in the tables are catalog labels rather than standardized technical identifiers. Color-naming tools may compile names from dictionaries, product lists, and other color collections. One established tool describes a manually edited collection of more than 1,500 names and warns against treating its output as a print specification.

These labels remain useful for browsing and discussing digital colors. For reproducible screen work, store the exact HEX value with the name and source.

Why Q Color Values Can Differ Between Sources

A human-readable color name is not necessarily unique. Different catalogs can assign different swatches to the same label without either value becoming a universal standard.

Quarter Pearl Lusta is a documented example. The catalog used for this atlas assigns it #F2EDDD, while another design catalog publishes #EEEBE3. Averaging them would create a third color specified by neither source, so this atlas retains #F2EDDD and qualifies the row.

When repeatable output matters, record the name, HEX value, color space, and catalog or manufacturer together. If a project specifies only a friendly name, request an approved digital value or the relevant physical sample.

A HEX swatch is an sRGB screen reference. It should not be treated as a paint formula, RAL standard card, printed-output specification, or guaranteed match to a physical sample. Use the applicable manufacturer sample or physical standard when the project moves beyond the screen.

How to Use Q Colors in Digital Designs

Use the names for organization and the HEX values for implementation. Save the chosen values in a design system, test them in their intended context, and keep vendor or physical-standard references separate from screen colors.

Copying Q Colors Into CSS or Design Software

Most design applications accept six-digit HEX values directly. CSS custom properties can keep selected references consistent:

:root {
  --q-surface: #F2EDDD;
  --q-neutral: #AC9884;
  --q-blue: #436B95;
  --q-magenta: #8E3A59;
}

Keep all six digits for these examples. Three-digit shorthand works only when each two-digit pair contains matching characters.

Checking Text Contrast

WCAG 2.2 calls for at least 4.5:1 contrast for normal text and 3:1 for large text at Level AA. Large text is at least 18-point regular or 14-point bold. The following ratios were calculated from the displayed HEX values:

ForegroundBackgroundContrastNormal TextLarge Text
Black #000000Quarter Pearl Lusta #F2EDDD17.93:1PassPass
Black #000000Quill Grey #CBC9C012.66:1PassPass
White #FFFFFFQueen Blue #436B955.56:1PassPass
Black #000000Queen Blue #436B953.78:1FailPass
White #FFFFFFQuinacridone Magenta #8E3A597.24:1PassPass

Test every final foreground and background pair rather than extending these results to similar-looking colors. Color also must not be the only visual signal. Add text, an icon, a pattern, or another visible state change when color communicates an action or status.

Choosing Roles Instead of Relying on Names

  • Pale surfaces: Quarter Pearl Lusta and Quill Grey can support dark text, as the calculated examples show.
  • Warm neutral: Quicksand can organize secondary panels or decorative areas after the surrounding contrast is checked.
  • Cool accent: Queen Blue can support white normal text at the tested values, while black passes only the large-text threshold.
  • Deep accent: Quinacridone Magenta can support white text at the tested values without implying a match to artist paint.
  • Additional choices: Use the atlas to compare exact swatches, then test the selected combination in its real interface.

The practical rule is to use a name for communication, its qualified HEX value for screen reproduction, and the relevant physical sample or standard for material matching.
